Still getting in the swing ...

Let me preface this story with the admission that I am not a big fan of animals. It's not that I want to kill them, it's mostly that I am terrified of them.
Several weeks ago, Rob and I saw in our front yard/neighbor's front yard a ton (a couple dozen) birds. This seemed unusual. We thought, there must be some good eating in that grass. About two weeks after that, when I was getting in my car, I saw our neighbor pop out of his front door and throw a handful of bread onto the lawn. My first reaction was -- ah, mystery solved. My second reaction was -- who does that
So, you can imagine my dismay this morning when getting ready for work (already running 10 minutes late) I heard flapping and other noises coming from outside one of the bedroom windows. My first thoughts were curses to the neighbor for encouraging these birds to come around in the first place. My second thought was, I hope they're not building a nest on our window air conditioner or something like that.
Essentially, when I got up to examine what was going on, I saw two birds sitting on the air conditioner, but they flew away shortly after I walked over. I go sit back down at my make-up table and I hear pecking and scratching noises along with flapping.
They were trying to get in.
At this point I'm trying really hard to have my big-girl panties on because it's 6am and Rob is still sleeping. So I do all I can to resist the urge to start screeching.
After another examination of the window area before leaving, I realized there is some kind of dirt trapped in the accordion thingy that comes out of the side of the air conditioner. These are apparently tasty morsels to the birds and what they were actually probably trying to get to.
Ah well, we all survived.

Dinner for the new parents

I am in Fort Worth visiting my sister, brother-in-law and new nephew. He is one month old today! I made dinner for them -- Ricotta Spinach Pasta from Cooking Light.

It was okay. I didn't use fresh fettucine like the recipe says. I also made the whole box not just 9 oz. I used the whole tub (15 oz.) of ricotta. It just didn't have much flavor. I was disappointed in my "performance." Hopefully tomorrow's dinner will make up for it.

Also, my nephew Leo is pretty much the cutest baby ever.

Hello!

Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Carolyn and I am a new blogger. I have been thinking of starting a blog for the past several months and am finally biting the bullet today! I plan to write about my life: learning to cook, living with my boyfriend, Rob, and the various adventures that we go on. I hope that you'll find it enjoyable.
